A heat pump is the same box on the side of your house doing double duty — it moves heat out in July and, on the handful of January mornings when Dade and Broward actually get chilly, it moves heat back in. Down here, a heat pump spends roughly 95% of its life in cooling mode, which is why we size and commission one the same careful way we size a straight AC system — for the humidity load first. Get that wrong and the house feels clammy at 74 degrees. Get it right and you run warmer, drier and cheaper. The reversing valve and the strip heat only matter a few weeks a year, but we test both before we leave, because finding out in January that the reversing valve is stuck is nobody’s idea of a good morning.

Repair costs vary with the issue, the parts needed and the type of system — a capacitor is not a compressor, and a ten-year-old heat pump with an obsolete refrigerant is a different conversation than a three-year-old one under warranty. That’s why we quote after we diagnose, not over the phone from a guess. What we will tell you on the phone is roughly how long we expect to be there and when we can come.
